I realize that not everyone sees themselves in pictures of a bride and groom. Amelia and I look at photography blogs like it’s our job (actually, it is, kind of?) and even though we are constantly being inspired by weddings, it’s often the personal stuff that digs deep. Deep, deep down to that part of us that reminds us that we need to be shooting the every day stuff. The random Wednesday mornings at IHOP. The drive up the mountain.
It’s this that you connect with. Way down deep.
The brilliant Dan O’Day did just that with Ginger & Pearl—a couple that you wish you could name yourself after—who are your typical old married couple. They collect magnets and they plant tomatoes. Isn’t that what every older couple does? At least, I hope it is.
His post inspired me to spend a day at my grandparent’s house. Not much seems to change since I was a kid. Trinkets are in the same nooks. Books are on the same shelf. The scale is still right there. And that’s what makes Eugene & Alice’s house, life, love so special. They practice a similar routine each day, which will always involve devotions, singing a hymn or two, and a hug in the kitchen.
